If I had to choose one of my most favorite people that have come into my life it would have to be a wonderful woman from Texas who’s now in her 80′s. Her name is Helene Hadsell and she’s known for what some might call a very odd thing…and others might call “luck”.

You see, Helene is known for being a winner. Not so much on the golf course necessarily…I’m not even sure if she plays golf, but for winning contests. Nearly every contest she enters.

You likely know the kind. Sweepstakes, prize drawings, contests…you name it. She’s won trips, a home, numerous smaller items and people are really amazed at the frequency. She even wrote a great ebook on her approach called “Contests – The Name It & Claim It Game”.

So you might ask, what does this have to do with golf?

Quite a lot actually, because Helene has a process that you can use for your game, just as well as she uses for her contest entries.

Here’s her four part process…

First you must SELECT IT (with “IT” being what you want).

Next you must PROJECT IT.

Then you need to EXPECT IT.

And finally, you can COLLECT IT.

Simple in principle, and powerful when applied.

Let’s take each one of these four steps and break them down a bit more, and apply it to your golf game.

Select It – It’s absolutely essential, no matter what your goal or ambition, to clearly define and choose what it is you want. Without this initial step, it’s all to easy to wander around aimlessly, when a focused and targeted goal ends up being much easier to hit.

I submit that if you want to cut 5 strokes off of your handicap this season, you must first decide that this is a worthwhile goal that has meaning for you. It will be important to develop a plan on how you will proceed and achieve this goal but first and foremost, you’ll need to decide…because indecision or a lack of interest in the pursuit will nearly always end in less than desirable results.

Project It – Helene uses visualization and meditation to create a vibrant, strong, clear image of what she wants to occur as a way of manifesting the goal in reality. Envisioning your goals brings not only a clarity to your purpose and efforts, but it also aligns other powerful aspects of the universal creative force with your objectives as well.

Visualization is in so many ways, the sustainer of the initial choice. It supports your ongoing, sometimes daily work, to move closer to your goal. In order to lower your golf score, it will be important to “see yourself” making more birdies, writing down lower scores on your card, and playing confidently and wisely around the course.

Expect It - Interestingly, this is one of the key elements of Helene’s process. It is, in a sense, an applied faith, belief, or sincere expectation that her vision and goal will manifest itself. There’s no question that Helene has had a number of reinforcing experiences to back up her belief in expectations…in other words she wins a lot…yet she feels that faith is a cornerstone of her receiving so many things.

The power of this shouldn’t come as a great surprise…after all we act differently and project a completely different type of energy when we are confident or faithful. And this is completely opposite of someone who is somehow desperate or yearning for something to come true.

Faith, in a sense, can not really be faked. You either have it or you don’t but it can be nurtured and developed. In golf, we can use our body’s posture and movements as a way to use our physiology to support our positive expectations. Keep your head up, stride confidently, as if you always expect the best to occur. No matter what.

Collect It – This is the fun part of course…collecting the prize. Using the simple steps above will certainly help you in achieving more of your goals. When you do win those private victories as well as the public ones…be sure to embrace the moments and soak up the accomplishment.

This is how momentum is built, how faith is sustained and strengthened, and a building block for future victories.
