I’ve got a question for you.

Have you ever watched a golf professional and his or her caddy work together? Chance are you have if you’ve been to a tournament or view an event on TV.

Did you happen to notice how they got along?

I would submit that at least most of the time, it’s a pretty constructive relationship.

I’ve talked in the past about expectations and how important they can be to improving your golf game.

When we’re in the process of selecting and setting a goal, regardless of what it may be, we absolutely must back this decision up with a positive expectation (or faith) that what we want is attainable and “creatable”.

The curse of certain expectations became much more apparent to me when I began teaching others.

I had a small group of women who had signed up for a five part series of lessons. They came along very early in my teaching career, and they were fun and enjoyable to work with. And they taught me a lot too.

If I had to choose one of my most favorite people that have come into my life it would have to be a wonderful woman from Texas who’s now in her 80′s. Her name is Helene Hadsell and she’s known for what some might call a very odd thing…and others might call “luck”.

You see, Helene is known for being a winner. Not so much on the golf course necessarily…I’m not even sure if she plays golf, but for winning contests. Nearly every contest she enters.

You likely know the kind. Sweepstakes, prize drawings, contests…you name it. She’s won trips, a home, numerous smaller items and people are really amazed at the frequency. She even wrote a great ebook on her approach called “Contests – The Name It & Claim It Game”.

But all of a sudden a usually consistent drive goes astray, a putt lips out of the cup, or any number of things begin that ultimately unravels this terrific round.

Or maybe on a personal level you’ve found yourself playing a great round of golf…maybe your best ever. The thought crosses your mind at some point in the round that “hey, I’m doing good here…if I keep this up, I’ll shoot the best round of my life!” And then, unexplicably, the wheels start to come off.

I won’t go through the gory details since we’ve all experienced something like this.

Ok, I admit it looked funny.

Standing out on a putting green and tapping on my forehead and talking to myself probably got the attention of a few passing golfers. But I was on a quest for knowledge and would not be deterred!

Actually in the end, anyone who might have laughed at me that day would do well to consider modeling my behavior if they wanted to putt better, or improve any part of their game for that matter.

The process is known by several names such as MTT or meridian tapping technique and EFT or the emotional freedom technique, but regardless of what it’s called, it can lead to lower golf scores if you apply it.
